I design a lot of my family heritage books using Blurb. Being a graphic designer I was thrilled when Blurb introduced templates for Indesign and QuarkXpress. You can also create your own PDF and upload it. I am so happy that I do not have to create my designs in Photoshop anymore. Once you converted them into a jpeg the type was never sharp when it was published.

Thanks, Dan. Linda Coffin’s comment about Blurb and pdfs used to be accurate, but Blurb has recently introduced the ability to upload your own pdfs, created in any number of page layout programs. They currently have templates available for InDesign, and will be adding more programs.

One thing you really want to do is read the fine print on the contracts, as you may be signing up for long-term arrangements you’re not going to like down the road.
