I’m always amazed by the great variety of life story links to be found. If you have time to read only one link this week, I highly recommend A life without left turns. It’s absolutely delightful!
- ‘Man in a van’ collecting stories of recession: “The beat-up 1989 Dodge van carries a sign with a question: “How has the recession affected you?” Along the side, a request: “Tell me your story.”
- Transcribing the wacky oral history of Canada’s East Coast: “If you begin at the end of Michael Crummey’s new novel and skim the acknowledgments page first, you’ll notice some odd titles among the family histories and medical textbooks the St. John’s author consulted while researching his latest book.”
- Memory Books: “In Uganda, AIDS-infected mothers have begun writing what they call Memory Books for their children.”
- Storymapping in Communities: “Essentially, “storymapping” is a method of reclaiming the dialogue and character of individuals and a community.”
- Nominate a Genealogy Blog for the Family Tree 40: “Do you have a favorite few genealogy blogs that you read regularly? Maybe the blogger offers excellent genealogy advice, insightful analysis or a unique point of view. Or the writing especially creative or humorous.”
- A life without left turns: “This wonderful essay was written by Michael Gartner, editor of newspapers large and small and President of NBC News. In 1997, he won the Pulitzer Prize for editorial writing.”
- Finding my dad, finding myself: “In discovering her father, a woman gained siblings and a deeper knowledge of who she is.”
