I record video for youth hockey games regularly. There is usually a lot of continuous activity being recorded. My consumer camera both struggles to keep up in regards to autofocus, and getting a clean image with all the movement.

Thanks

Tue, 14 Aug 2012 21:28:36 +0000https://dancurtis.ca/?p=7021#comment-4157I’ve just purchased the XA10 and love it. In some ways I regret not spending a bit more for a heavier JVC that had 3 chips, but I’m a reporter and it was hugely important for me to be a one-bag guy, and this delivers great quality all but weightlessly. so far I’m very happy with it.

Look at the reviews on BandH’s website. It DOESNT say “poor in low light”. Doesn’t have a lot of CONS either.

Mon, 13 Aug 2012 15:26:37 +0000https://dancurtis.ca/?p=7021#comment-4150I’ve been doing a ton of research to find a camera that kind of matches what you’re describing above: shoulder-mountable, no more then 2 to 3 grand in price, great in low lighting conditions, and takes SD cards as opposed to p2. You recommended the XA10. 5 people on BandH dot com reviewed this camera as “Poor in low light”. Then you recommended the JVC GY-HM100U: 22 people on BandH reviewed this camera as “Poor in low light”. Same with the HMC40: 56 people reviewed this as “Poor in low light.” The HMC40 looks really crappy because if you use the hotshoe at the top of it for the light panel, where the heck do you put the shotgun mic?

Mon, 14 May 2012 16:00:56 +0000https://dancurtis.ca/?p=7021#comment-3918JVC now has the GY-HM150U available for $2400 or more (ouch). But, this is the only one that you can find on Apple’s website because of it’s capability to edit immediately in FCPX. I really like the Canon XA10 but I am worried about how to get my video into FCPX. Do you need a conversion program or download anything else or will the XA10 go directly into FCPX as well like the JVC. Thank you much.
